(almost) Another Year Older

Today is the day before my 32nd birthday. Thirty-Two years alive in this world and I sit down to try to actively think about what I've done in the last year, what I've accomplished to keep my mind from being overwhelmed by what I haven't done: marriage and kids. When I was a kid, it snowed every single year on my birthday until I moved to Charlotte almost 9 years ago. Now this year, well it's the day before, but in Charlotte that's close enough to count I wake up to the below. So many of my birthday parties were cancelled or changed when I was a kid because of a giant snowstorm. But anyway, back to the things I've accomplished this past year. I became a godmother, again, to a young woman who came into the Church through RCIA with her father. At 17 she was baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil. I was promoted at work. Twice. I've been given the opportunity to develop a new product offering and am going to spend the next year implementing i...

The Rudest Thing

I have a list of pet peeves a mile long. Anyone who knows me in real life could tell you that the littlest things can bother me. It’s mostly things that other people do that are inefficient and therefore bother me, but some of these are real things. For instance, not driving with your lights on when it’s raining or even foggy. This is one of my biggest driving pet peeves. It’s actually the law. I always think that the police should pull these people over. BUT then a few months ago I was driving and saw a car without its lights on in the rain and was telling them from my car to turn them on and I noticed it was a police officer IN a police car. I guess they don’t pull people over because they, themselves, have no idea that this is the law!! I don’t consider this driving tick rude though – it’s just ignorant to other drivers and endangering other people’s safety! That’s all. Today I’m writing about what I believe is the rudest thing one stranger can do to another stranger becaus...

This Happened ... over the weekend!

A recap of the weekend in pics! A new pizza with Naan Bread as the crust , beet hummus as the sauce , all topped with spinach, tomatoes, and honey goat cheese.  And yes that is my SUPER messy desk (only one section) ... it still looks like that - until World Feast 2014  is over, I think it'll look just like this!  If you're in the Charlotte Area, come on over on the 18th of this month! All of these great fall veggies, turned into this... Butternut Squash, Acorn Squash, Apples, Carrots, Onions, Garlic ... YUM-O! No one ever brings me flowers at work ... so I took matters into my own hands by picking  my own after Mass.  So now happiness on my desk! I even attended Mass in the Extraordinary Form  on Saturday morning in Honor of Our Lady.  It was lovely - and really quite peaceful.  There was music, but I think I may have liked it even more without - just quiet morning time with the Lord.  And I could not ...

7 Quick Takes ... August 22nd

--- 1 --- Well it's been a pretty crappy end of the week around here ... sorry for the language  but yesterday evening Mer, MG, my neighbors (so glad I finally got to meet some good neighbors who were incredible) and I spent the evening cleaning up sewage that came up my toilet spreading it's nastiness throughout the entirety of the downstairs of my house.  Yeah, you read that right - sewage.  It was a pretty terrible experience.  The floor looked alright, but you could feel squishing below and water would come right up from the seams even after you dried it.  Today a water restoration guy came out and now it looks like ... --- 2 --- Well, this: Downstairs Bathroom - the offending toilet was right there. Hallway sans Flooring and Baseboards Dining Room sans flooring, baseboards and part of the wall Front Entry Way, you guessed it, sans flooring Living room, no floor but got these nifty air dryers. They add a very interesting...

It's the Little Things...

Just a quick laugh for your Tuesday evening! Each week I import the homilies into my computer at work via iTunes before uploading them to our website for download by all.  If you've ever imported a CD into iTunes, you know that it suggests the title, artist info, and album name.  Sometimes I get some interesting suggestions and this afternoon's made me chuckle! iTunes' Suggestion: What I actually wanted to call it: Oh, Father Christian and his 'rappers delight' - it's so funny and he has no idea that is what I'll be thinking the next time I see him walk by my office and get a little chuckle! Another dose of Church Humor - yesterday a student comes in for a parking pass and as I'm writing down the expiration date he asks: "Does this church profess the Nicene Creed?" I responded: "Yes, of course" He asked: "What denomination are you?" I retorted: "Catholic" hmm... if I had...

NAS: Great things from this weekend...

I'm going to commit myself to write in the NAS series this year ... so a few random things on the last Summer Link-Up for the Not Alone Series ! I saw a few things I couldn't help but share with you on this Tuesday! From Kendra at Catholic All Year for the Feast of St. Dominic on Friday (8/8) posted on Facebook: one, very holy man! not sure if I could say the same thing... On the other end of the spectrum (ie: completely opposite of Holy Saint Dominic) - some late night fun!  A friend and I love reminiscing about our years of childhood as Reading Rainbow .  Go ahead, click over ... if you were a Levar Burton fan as a kid - this will make your Tuesday! Two completely opposite great things - but both worth it! Happy Tuesday Y'all! Also just cleaned my new kitchen this weekend and can.not.wait to cook in my new kitchen next week!!!  Last night I packed up the last remaining items from my current place - it's official, I have just one fork, two very sm...

Answer Me This ... August 10

Welcome to the internet's favorite cocktail party ... can't verify the favorite for all of the internet, but I sure to enjoy it ... and I don't do many cocktail parties, why is that? I should have more cocktail parties! 1. What do you still want to do this summer? I want to sign the papers at my house closing and move!!!  24 more hours until the closing, 5 days until moving!!! 2. What's your favorite kind of pie? Old Fashion Apple Pie - made by my dad ... but sacrificing sweets right now, so trying not to think about it ... today I'm going to say this tomato pie  I found on pinterest!  Looks mighty tasty! Recipe Here verses Recipe Here 3. How much sleep do you need each day? How much do you get? I think I need 8 to 10 hours, but really, my body says, "okay, we're done" after about 7 hours.  I typically get that many ... I also realize I'm blessed to live in a quiet house since it's just me. 4. Do you prefer to swim...

Isn't She the Cutest!?

Oh how I love when I import my pics from my phone to my new chromebook and this comes out! This is Lucy - she's three (and this pic is from right around her birthday in May actually), and she is just the cutest!  Last week she was at our parish's Totus Tuus program and she is just the cutest - well to be fair the rest in her family are also adorable, but I don't have pics from them ... so just some written love! Happy Tuesday!

Keep It? Trash It? Remember It Forever?

I am in the process of moving from the apartment I've lived in for more than 3 years to a brand new (to me) townhouse! My New Place! Anyway - on Saturday I went into my closet and thought "I should go through these cards and throw most of them away, why am I such a pack rat?"  I mean, I had a TON of cards - I've been keeping things for years ... notes from old roommates, Halloween cards, Christmas cards, Thank You cards, an entire container of cards I got when I left my last job almost 3 1/2 years ago, and even bills from years ago that needed to be shredded.  And after reading this post from Kendra  (Q2), I had been thinking about going through these things for weeks - and also that I'm trying not to move trash into my new house. So I started with this mess of stuff... You are seeing that correct - that is a basket, an animal cracker container, a shoe box, and a plastic tub FULL of cards!  There are even a few more that are already packed (very rec...

7 Quick Takes Friday, September 27th

For More Quick Takes, visit  Conversion Diary ! 1. Well, I downloaded the new iOS 7 onto my iPhone 4S - and I'm so glad I did!  I really like the new features especially in the camera and the notification center (both the top one and the bottom one).  I like it most especially because I feel like I got a brand new phone without paying anything - except the 4 hours it took me to update last Wednesday!  The price I paid to have it on the day it came out! 2. Roommate and I have participated in two book clubs in the last two weeks and I'm not sure what I think.  I've been trying since I met MG to start a book club, but I can't get anyone who's willing to read the same kinds of books I want to read and have the same regularity of meetings I want.  I've tried restructuring my wants - and I'm still coming up empty handed.  Anyone participate in one or begin one who's willing to offer some advice or encouragement?  3. Roommate and ...

It's Monday, Musings!

And I haven't posted for real in a while, so I thought I'd share some of my thoughts - since my facebook friends are probably tired of it all!  It's not Friday - so instead of quick takes how about some musings! ------------- Yesterday at Confirmation III, we were talking about the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit and I was trying to get the kids to memorize them.  So for Gifts - I had them repeat after me: knowledge, wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord.  Then, for the fruits - I sang them the chorus of this song: And rightfully embarrassed myself: love, joy, peace, and patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control - don't forget about all the faithfulness - ohoooo....  Anyway, I told them to learn it, so we'll see if they do in the next couple of weeks! ------------- Today (and yesterday actually), I made coffee, like I do every day, and I don't have any half'n'half.  I had to use Light Org...

7 Quick Takes Friday, June 21st

For More Quick Takes, visit  Conversion Diary ! - 1 - What a week - I feel like I say this each week; I'm not sure why my life is so dramatic sounding when nothing great really happens.  I mean, seriously - how can this be?  I think that I create drama wherever I go ... like Pig Pen a little bit:   I am trying to remove this aspect of my life, but it's super difficult, so I will press on and try to remove the crown (ie: drama queen crown). - 2 - I think that Spiritual Direction can help me with this and will discuss it with Monsignor when we meet later today. ... I'm really done, just tired - so I'm going to just post some memes they did at Faithful Servant today while I wasn't there! - 3 -  Well this one is from Francis ... but now... - 4 - This one is from my small group - about me: - 5 - This is the cutest little girl: - 6 - This guy is GREAT ! - 7 - And this kid has the cutest little face: Go to Je...
