Happy Feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas!

Found this on Catholic Vote's Facebook page, can't help but share: I knew switching parishes (and patrons) back in April of 2011 was a fantastic idea!

Happy Feast Day of John Paul II!

Some words of wisdom from The Catholic Company  on Facebook today: If you don't follow them on Facebook , Instagram , or Pinterest , they are a great company - posting all kinds of saint quotes, great pictures (many from my parish actually), and their products are awesome too.  The woman who does their social media is a good friend! And today is the Feast Day for our Beloved John Paul II ... what a blessing! One of my favorite quotes: It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness. In the design of God's Providence, there are no coincidences. Now there are so many more, with the Theology of the Body, Love and Responsibility, and hundreds of letters, encyclicals, and speeches during his time as Holy Father - but for today, just three! What would a Feast be without a great little joke!?! The Pope Visits America The Pope just finished a tour of the East Coast and was taking a limousine to the airport. Since he'd never driven a limo, he...

NAS: The Rosary & The Single Life

October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, so we wanted to honor Mary and reflect on her help during this time of singleness. How have you called on her intercession before? What is your relationship with our Blessed Mother like? If you don't know much about Mary or the Rosary, is there something keeping you from getting to know her? There are two things that keep me sane as a single lady.  One of them is the rosary and the other is this: So I try to stick with the Rosary on most days!  And today is a special feast for Our Lady of the Rosary  so it's great that Morgan and Jen chose October 7th to talk about it!   A few years ago I was in a Women's Bible study and Immaculee  came to speak in Charlotte at our Eucharistic Congress.  A woman who I was very good friends with was with me and a few other ladies at lunch at the best Chinese Restaurant in Huntersville!  She asked me if I was praying the Rosary for my husband.  I said, ...

Happy Belated Birthday to John Paul II!

Some lovely quotes from Blessed John Paul II: The Church needs resolute, consistent, and faithful witnesses who, in the face of widespread doubts and disbelief on many levels in society today, will show in word and deed their commitment to the ever living Christ. It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness. Holiness is not perfection according to human criteria; it is not reserved for a small number of exceptional persons. It is for everyone; it is the Lord who brings us to holiness, when we are willing to collaborate in the salvation of the world for the glory of God, despite our sin and our sometimes rebellious temperament. Man's life comes from God; it is his gift, his image and imprint, a sharing in his breath of life.  God therefore is the sole Lord of this life: Man cannot do with it as he wills.

Benedict XVI - Favorite Quote

I saw on Ironic Catholic 's page this morning that she was putting up her favorite Benedict XVI quote so I decided to follow suit. Dear young people, you are a precious gift for society. Do not yield to discouragement in the face of difficulties and do not abandon yourselves to false solutions which often seem the easiest way to overcome problems. Do not be afraid to make a commitment, to face hard work and sacrifice, to choose the paths that demand fidelity and constancy, humility and dedication. Be confident in your youth and its profound desires for happiness, truth, beauty and genuine love! Live fully this time in your life so rich and so full of enthusiasm. Realize that you yourselves are an example and an inspiration to adults, even more so to the extent that you seek to overcome injustice and corruption and strive to build a better future. Be aware of your potential; never become self- centered but work for a brighter future for all. You are never alone. The Church has co...

7 Quick Takes Friday - November 2nd

--- 1 --- Well, I did it!   Run at 5K that is ... it was an awesome experience.  42 minutes of pure running terribleness followed by days of pure excitement!!!   Check out the experience here! --- 2 --- An awesome quote from today's Direction for Our Times . if you try to please Me in even the smallest way, you will change the world. -Jesus --- 3 --- This weekend's our Fall Dinner Theater  - a big fundraising production we put on each year where the teens perform a bunch of skits ... this year a few are as follows: and this great one! I'll post some funny videos here next week for your enjoyment! --- 4 --- I've been discerning  all week about taking a new position in my parish - it is the scariest thing I've had to do in my entire adult life, wait, I take that back - my entire life.  It's so unpredictable, unexpected, extra-ordinary (ie: out of the ordinary)!  It might even be the hardest thing I ever do - if the deciding doesn't kill ...

7 Quick Takes Friday, Oct 25

--- 1 --- Quote For Today: The essence of perfection is to embrace the will of God in all things, prosperous or adverse. In prosperity, even sinners find it easy to unite themselves to the divine will; but it takes saints to unite themselves to God's will when things go wrong and are painful to self-love. - Saint Alphonsus de Liguori (1696-1787) --- 2 --- The Color Run!   A while ago, I had committed myself to run this race ; however , I was too late to sign-up and picked a different run (see #3 below).  But a parishioner asked if we could volunteer to throw the color at each of the kilometer markers - UM, yes - best part!  Also found out that one of my teens and another one of my great friends are both running - so a great choice! that'll be us on November 17th! --- 3 --- My 5K is coming up  in just 36 hours!  I can't believe it's finally here.  I'm excited and nervous - hoping it goes well.  Running along the way! --- ...

Happy Feast of St. Ignatius

In honor of today's first reading: Reading 1  Gal 5:18-25 Brothers and sisters: If you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions, occasions of envy, drinking bouts, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God. In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit. I present you one of my favorite videos! got the fruits of the spirit stuck in your head? you are welcome!!!

7 Quick Takes - Friday, August 17th

--- 1 --- What a week!   I feel like I've been working every day for 3 weeks this coming weekend included.  We are going to our Deacon's Lake House for the weekend with the Core Team.  It should be fun with these 8 teens (just 2/3rds of our team): team building activities, hanging on the boat, games, team bonding, etc...  What an adventure we are going to have! --- 2 --- Life in a parish with a new pastor  have proven to be harder than I first imagined.  There's a lot of change and adaptation from all, mostly the parishioners.  I look forward to meeting with him next week to give him my vision for youth ministry and know his for this ministry and for our parish. --- 3 --- Who are we & where are we going?   That's the question of the hour for us and for our teens.  The theme of the first Confirmation III session we are doing for the new 9th grade Confirmation program.  I'm hoping and praying this goes amazingly! --- 4...

Food for Thought today!

Every day I receive 3 words of encouragement in my inbox. 1.   K-Love Encouraging Word : a daily scripture verse...Today's was This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.  Psalm 118:24 NLT 2.   Daily Blessing : a Saint Quote (usually whichever feast is that day)...Today's was If something irritating or troublesome happens, instead of loading with curses whatever is not going the way we want it to, it would be just as easy and a great deal more beneficial for us to say: ‘God bless it!’ Imitate the holy man Job, who blessed the name of the Lord in all the troubles which befell him, and you will receive the same graces as he did. - Saint John Vianney (1786-1859), Feast Day August 4  3.   Food for Thought: from Dynamic Catholic, an organization by Matthew Kelly - these are from the Mustard Seeds  devotional...Today's was Why is it that you so easily become a victim of your imagination? Perhaps it is because you allow...

Quote of the Day - June 30

"There are a whole lot of people who are so freakin' busy-they've so clutter up their lives-they're at their wits end.  And if they'd only just stop for a minute, they could hear the God of the universe whisper to them, 'I love you.'" -Mike Yaconelli

Quote of the Day - June 26

Remember that your virtue may seem to be that of a saint and yet be worth nothing if it is not joined to the ordinary virtues of a Christian. That would be like adorning yourself with magnificent jewels over your underwear. -- St. Josemaria Escriva

Quote of the Day - June 23

"Don't you long to shout to those youths who are bustling around you: Fools! Leave those worldly things that shackle the heart - and very often degrade it - leave all that and come with us in search of Love!" -St. Josemaria Escriva
