When Others Despise You

In general I appreciate when people like me, as I think most people do. For me, it's really hard when people dislike me, even if I don't have to be around them all of the time. I get anxious thinking about the next time we will be in the same location and if I'll be able to just kindly avoid them or if there will be an awkward confrontation. There's a line in scripture about how blessed we are when others despised us because they hated Him first. Him, being Jesus, of course. But is that always the case? Am I applying a section of scripture to a situation to which it has no relationship? Am I using a passage of scripture to make myself feel better about the actions that I'm going to take, to justify it to myself and others? Am I manipulating the Lord's words to promote my own agenda in the name of the Lord? I wonder this regarding many things. Passages like "The Lord will fulfill His promises" in relationship to my relationship status. Did He promis...

NAS: Encouraging Men

We seem to always have something say about guys treating us right! Or, not right! But, what does that mean? Have you ever thought to share those insights so guys have a better idea on what to say/how to act? Well, let's do it! What are some good habits guys can take up when dealing with us ladies? Well, we've talked about Chivalry before. I just reread that post yesterday because I was looking at my blog stats and noticed that it is my most read post. I thought, "what made that so good?" But if you remember it, or clicked over just before getting to this sentence, you'll remember that I was talking about a priest friend of mine who was so kind to me when we last got together (and always has been).  Last week I had a similar experience when I did some errands with Fr. C (our associate priest) to prepare for an event we were having with the 20s & 30s of the parish with our new Aquinas' Finest  efforts. Such a gentleman. I think these are skills...

7 Quick Takes Friday ... October 31st

--- 1 --- Well, today is Halloween - my absolute least favorite holiday.  It has nothing to with the devil, religious reasons, calling it 'all hallow's eve' or any like that.  It's actually because I don't like dressing up or acting like someone I'm not.  I can appreciate what Kendra has as a tradition with her children - super scary, super cool saints and Halloween costumes .  I am also excited to see all of the babies in my life dressed up in super cute costumes - Doug, a puppy, and an old man are in the works for today! --- 2 --- This week I had a chance to put some old pictures from CDs onto my computer and upload them up to my google photos ... check out some of these fun ones! Mike (now Father) and I in Germany for WYD more here Yes, that is JPII!!!  A SAINT! more from WYD here There are more, but you'll have to wait a few weeks! --- 3 --- Brenda, over at Triple Braided Life , featured me on Tuesday as a Single Wo...

NAS: Oh, so chivalrous!

Back with the Not Alone Series  gals this week! Oh, so chivalrous! Chivalry should not become a lost art and we, as women, ought to step up to the plate a bit more and encourage men to treat us as women, thereby respecting them as men. Do you have tips, ideas, or stories to encourage men to be... men?! Open doors for us, initiate dates, honor us as women, etc? Let's chat! (Thanks to Sarah Thérèse !) My thoughts on this topic are varied and a little confusing even for me, but I will try to articulate it without sounding like I am complaining, which I am not. I think chivalry is a lot about how it makes men and women feel, perception, and realizing we are all connected in this crazy world instead of living for ourselves.  I also think chivalry is not just about men doing things for women, but human beings taking care of human beings.  All that being said, here's a story to bed illustrate my thoughts. About a month ago my friend who was recently ordained a prie...
