NAS: Freebie :: All Groan Up

Topic for this week is whatever we want, so I thought I'd write a little bit about a book I'm on a launch team for :: All Groan Up . I've been reading this guy's blog for a while now. It's full of funny, inspiring, and great content. I especially think about his explanation of OCD ... Obsessive Comparison Disorder. (not to diminish people with clinical OCD tendencies) I don't know about you, but I tend to look at someone else's life and compare and contrast to my own. However, I typically only see the ways that hers is better than mine, she has accomplished more of my goals than me, and is overall happier than I am. Objectively, I know this isn't true. The self we put on Facebook, Instagram, and even this little 'ole blog is our best self. I don't tend to write to you on the days when I'm practically having a nervous breakdown, crying my eyes out because I don't know what to do with my life, where I'm going, or if I'll ever...

7 Quick Takes Friday ... February 20th

--- 1 --- Well I missed the link-up with the Not Alone Series Gals  this week, so I'm going to write about my Spiritual Reading books for my Quick Takes and make this a Double Take! Prompt: What are some of your favorite or go-to books, devotionals or even blogs that help encourage you in your spiritual life? I don't know how great I'll be at giving suggestions, but I do have a few in my mind to share about, so here goes nothing... --- 2 --- I've written about this book before , but in recent memory it's been very helpful. Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence . The author discusses suffering a lot and how we get to where we are in the Spiritual Life. Some areas are a lot to take in, that all things are necessary and desired by God for our good. That's hard to handle a bit when we are thinking about bad things that happen to us. Overall the Lord wills the good in our life - the good that will get us to Heaven to be with Him for eternal li...

Flabbergasted (a book & my life)!

would link to amazon, but the cover is completely different and this green car is actually a main character A while ago a friend recommended for me to read Flabbergasted  by Ray Blackston ( amazon ) so I put it on my library reserve list and waited.  Then a few weeks ago I got the email, picked it up, and started reading.  After a little while, I realized that I had previously read this book, but I couldn't remember the ending and I was stuck on a plane, so I kept going. It was an interesting read.  The main character, Jay Jarvis, moves to Greenville, SC because he was relocated for work.  He begins attending Church for one reason - to find himself a nice gal.  He finds one, well sort of, and makes a lot of friends as well.  The girl he meets is a missionary who's heart is in South America so it seems like he ends up choosing between money and the girl ... but the ending is so dissatisfying that I remembered why I wasn't a huge fan of it in the p...

Answer Me This ... August 24th

Welcome to this week's edition of Answer Me This  ... thanks Kendra for hosting!  It's been fun this past few weeks, I'm sad we won't be getting together regularly for this cocktail party! 1. What is your favorite picture book? I don't have an answer to this question - since I don't read to children on a regular basis, I don't really have any opportunities to read picture books on a regular basis to get a favorite. 2. Are you a boycotter? I can be, but only one company right now.  Johnson & Johnson because I think they are crazy if they think that they can make money from babies AND from selling contraceptives.  I know that there are many other companies who sell products that I disagree with, have stands that are opposite of mine, and who are vocal about it - but well, I, personally, cannot boycott the world. 3. How do you feel about cheese? Um, what kind of question is this? I love cheese, maybe too much!  The smellier and stranger the ...

Five Favorites {September 25th}

  I have been noticeably absent from blogging for a while (except for Five Favorites) - but the reason is because I've been trying to catch up on my book club reading (see below) and that I went to New York City this weekend to purchase a car!!! So, some favorites, just for y'all! 1.  This is the book club book that is excellent! But it's keeping me from these great books I just got in the mail (and one I've had for a while, but it's Novena time for St. Therese so it's been brought back out!  2.  I've been missing Elisabeth this week - and friends from the past in general so I made her famous S'Mac and Cheese for dinner the other night! Hoping I can turn some of the left overs into little s'mac and cheese cupcakes for book club on Thursday! YUMMY!!!  3.  When we were in New York (roommate went with me to keep company on the 635 mile drive), we found this gem right on the street!  It'll help us display our fancy wine ...

'The Hunger Games' Book & Movie Review

I've been hearing about The Hunger Games  for a while now - and I'm definitely not the first nor the last to jump on the bandwagon.  After hearing all of my middle schoolers talk about how they went to see it as a class field trip I felt compelled to read it.  At the very least I wanted to know the references when they said something about it.  So I borrowed the first book from one of the ym families and read it in one day! I loved the story - was captured by Katniss and her narration of the story.  She's detached from her emotions, has no idea how to really love, and is so confused about the direction of her life.  One of the most interesting things is how much hatred she has for The Capitol and how they want to put the Districts in their place. She is so fearful of being chosen in the reaping that she's decided she will never have children.  The Capitol will never control her future. Katniss & Gale - the closest thing she has ever ex...
